The Hobbit Customs

Custom Orcs
Hello all,

Here is my latest custom, it is another 'pale' Orc, he's the tank of the group. I went for a more 'savage' look with this one, adding more bones as decoration. This is one of the first times I have attempted to add articulation to a figure, I think it came out ok,  but in future I will try harder to 'hide' the seams.

Savage Orc
Apart from that I wanted to show some more pictures of Alatar and Pallando, fighting some Haradrim and Easterlings.

Pallando with new staff
I also included an eastern 'hero' to go with Pallando. I think that like Gandalf, the Blue wizards would have recruited heroes for their quests. I may add some more later, I think I may use more 'stand ins' like this Hogun. I'm also thinking of using some figures from the prince of Persia line. You can also see some more Marvel universe and Indiana Jones figures to represent 3 3/4" Haradrim and Easterlings.

Wizards

Hello all,

looks like I have 'The Hobbit' fever! Below you'll see some of my more recent work as well as some work that I have posted in the past at Joecustoms

First up Alatar and Pallando, the blue wizards, the Ithryn Luin. If you don't know who they are check this out. Essentially they are the 'other two' wizards that are barely mentioned in LOTR. They were sent to the East and South to help stop Sauron's influence on the likes of the Southrons e.g. the Haradrim and the warriors of Rhun, the Easterlings among others.

Some of the Istari: Pallando, Alatar,  (Sean Connery) and Gandalf
They are also known as Morinehtar (Darkness Slayer) and Romestamo (East Helper). There is some debate as to what name belongs to which wizard but I'm going to give Alatar the Darkness Slayer title and Pallando the East Helper. This is the main reason I gave Pallando an 'Eastern' appearance, while I think Alatar has a 'Moses like' look so I think that he may have been more well known in the South. I do think they worked as a team however.

Alatar

Pallando.
Unfortunately, the darker blue of the 'belt' doesn't quite show. Please note this figure is based on this custom.

Here is my Mithrandir custom which I submitted for a NJC contest at Joecustoms, I tried to recreate the 'Out of the iron pan, into the fire' scene from The Hobbit. If you want to read more go here.

Mithrandir

Finally here is my Necromancer and a 'Heavy' I'm calling a 'Black Numenorean'. This Necromancer does not represent 'The Necromancer' but instead represents one of many dark servants of Sauron. Who knows, maybe he's a Southron opposing the Blue Wizards?

As always let me know what you think

The Hobbit Customs Update

Hello all,

just a quick update, I recently received a massive package from BBTS! Including the last two Voltron Lions and Three of the Fimbul and Warg sets. I will eventually get around to reviewing the Lions, the completed Voltron is massive!

But this post isn't about Lions, no, it is about the Warg riders. I have customized the three riders, the images are below. Please let me know what you think. Before I go any further, I'd like to acknowledge Dr Syn from The Smuggling Cove for the inspiration for these figures and for the reference pictures. I have done some sculpting, it's nowhere near as good as his. Thanks again mate!

Freddie Kruger? This is a lighter skin tone Orc like the ones in the reference pics (or at least trying to be) Please note the flash makes everything lighter
I thought this helmet looked like the one the Orks of Moria wore in LOTR
The armour is from a G.I.Joe ROC Neo Viper

Finally, here is my first Dwarf custom: Blackbeard the Dwarf

The Hobbit: Toys and Customs

Hello all!

I am back! No game news, for the few of you that are interested. However, I walked into my local Big W, which I assume, is like a Wal-mart in the U.S.A. They had all the figures from the 3 3/4" line of the  The Hobbit from the Bridge Direct with the exception of the Goblin King and Thorin, Fimbul and Warg and Bolg and 'Battle Damaged' Gandalf. Since then I have aquired Bolg and Gandalf and am waiting for a Few Warg sets and the Goblin King from Bigbadtoystore. Oh I'm also waiting for the final three Voltron Lions, I'll put up a review when they arrive. If you want to see the previous reviews see behind the times.

Now I was going to do a Review of all of them (The Hobbit figures). However, I'm a little tired. I may do it another day. The few things I will say, is that:

Likes

-Great Detail
-Good Articulation, just as good or better as the first of the Toy Biz LOTR line. Still better, much, much better than Mattel's Voltron figures
-Removable weapons
-The scale, for years I wished that they would released LOTR figures in this scale!

Dislikes
- For some of them the 'clothes' are restrictive, which means that they can not use the articulation below, this is particularly true of Legolas and Kili, I had to make so 'strategic' cuts to remedy this
-Some of the paint application could be better
-a few of the accessories don't fit in their hands to well, again this is an issue with Legolas, his bow is too fat for his hands
-There aren't enough of them available at the moment!

Below you'll find some pictures of the figures themselves. However, what I am very happy about are some Goblin customs and Dol Guldur Orcs I've been working on. I purchased a few of the 'Grinnah' figures and decided to build up my Goblin army, I used some modelling putty to make a few changes, I modelled them after some images that I have seen online. The Dol Guldur orcs are based on Bolg and on a LOTR Sam in or amour. Keep in mind that the flash of the camera makes the figures look lighter than what they actually are: I would really appreciate some feedback as I'm not sure I'll be posting these any where else.

THE BRIDGE DIRECT STUFF

The Unexpected Party. Left to Right, Back to Front: Fili, Thorin, Kili (mini Aragorn), Dwalin, Bilbo, Gandalf and Balin
Legolas (see the chunky bow) and Tauriel
In battle
Riddles in the Dark
Invisible Bilbo (I'm told it's an OZ exclusive)
Two Bilbos and Two Gandalfs (battle damaged on the left)
THE CUSTOMS

GOBLINS

Now as far as I'm aware Tolkien pretty much stated that Goblins and Orcs were the same thing. I have always thought of them as different since my Warhammer days. I had hoped that the Goblins would look like those from The Fellowship of the Ring. But the more I see of these the more I like them. The Goblins below are all 'Grinnah' figures, I used some modelling clay and some paint to modify them, I added tumors and what not, where I could, some of them look really gross!

The Goblins! Note the one on the lower Left's head comes from a Toy Biz LOTR figure, I believe it came with Sam Gamgee.

Damaged ear and Tumors

DOL GULDUR ORCS

From what I've read on the web, the Orcs from Dol Guldur include Azog and Bolg. Oh the controversy this has caused! I'm actually looking forward to the whole Necromancer sub-plot. Anyway, so far these Orks (I think this is the plural form) are described as being pale. Now I've noticed that Orcs and Goblins in these films are on the 'lighter' side skin tone wise. I don't know if that's because of all the controversy of the Orcs being of 'darker' skin tone in the previous films. Either way, I like the idea of different types of Orcs existing in middle earth. When the Warg sets arrive I'll be making more customs. These Warg riders are confusing me, in the book they come from the Misty Mountain, so technically they should look like the goblins above, they set out to avenge their king. I think Jackson is making them servants of Azog, so they must come from Dol Guldur, even though Azog origninally ruled Moria and was replaced by Bolg when Dain Ironfoot decapitated him! See what I mean, confusing. I guess I'll have to wait 'til the film!

This Orc is based on Bolg (obviously)
The helmet is from the Sam in Orc Disguise figure
The body is from the Sam in Orc Disguise figure and the head is from a BBI Goblin figure

Well this is it for now, got a few more customs on the way, currently working on a Necromancer, not The Necromancer. Like I said before, I will appreciate feedback.

Monday 24 September 2012

Hello all!

I'm still around, for those of you who may have been wondering. Now I mentioned I would be doing a couple of things by the time October hit. one was that I'd be making a donation to Joe-Customs and that is coming, hopefully by the end of the year. I will keep my word!

The second thing was that I'd have a set of rules ready for the Zombie version of the game in time for Halloween. However, life has caught up with me, had visitors from overseas, work and uni, etc, etc. This coupled with a lack of motivation for the moment means that the rules will need to be pushed back.

However, I believe my motivation may return if I hear from you guys. Have you been playing the game? got any battle reports to submit? Please contact me through the usual methods.

All the best

The contest submissions

Asphalt's Battleground Submission

Hello all!

I can see there are a couple of people added to the 'flock'. Welcome, welcome!
Unfortunately, the contest wasn't as popular as I had hoped!

There were two entries for the 'best squad' category and one each for the other two. Rather than cancel the contest. I decided to come to a solution that rewards those who chose to enter. Please check that out here.

Asphalt's 'in battle shot' Ouch!
all the details are there so read through it all, I hope it isn't too much writing : P
I know this is a problem for some...

You will find all the images below, if you would like to the stats, check out the link above. If anything this contest was all about quality over quantity. Asphalt and Daremo, did some amazing work, check it out for yourself below. I hope that this contest got at least some more people playing the game.

As always, I would really love to hear from you all, what do you think? have you played the game? got a battle report to submit? Why do you think the contest didn't work out?

Now don't despair, for the few of you out there who enjoy the game, I do plan to release a few more additions to the game, mainly for the 'basic' rules. The advanced will remain on hiatus for a while. I have a bit of sulking, I mean thinking to do...

Enjoy the entries below:

First up Asphalt's SLAYERS

In my opinion, a very creative use of parts, the weapons really stand out. the post apocalyptic feel and battle scars make this a one of a kind squadron, I'd hate to go up against these boys, they seem to really like to get into their opponents faces! Check out the pipe bombs on Erik! I have to say Jack is my favorite, the top hat and cane are awesome!

Asphalt has told me he'll submit a battle report in the future so we can see these guys in action!
L to R Iron horse, Erik,  Ocho (leader), Shrike and Jack

The Second entry was Daremo's JADE DRAGONS
This squadron is very cohesive, the hats and the use of green is very striking, this group looks like they like to work as a team! This squadron looks right at home in both the distant past and the future. Shi is a real stand out for me. These figures look like battle hardened assassins, striking from the shadows! Yet they do not fit the stereotype: check out Peacemaker, a real mix of east and west!
Daremo has stated that they have links to the Yakuza.

Bruiser, Shi, Oyabun, Peacemaker and Fukiya
